the IF exercise

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s poem If. The team engaged in an individual exercise to write their own If. The question was posed to all, what is your If?

If—

By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

If
by L’RAC

If is the middle word in LIFE
If only I acted when I should have
If only I said all the things I should have.
If only I loved without fear
If only 2 modeled how much I cared
If only I could turn back the hand of time
If only I studied and know all my lines.
If only I know what I know now
To live only in the now
If
by Grace

If I become a kinder person than I was the year before.
Accept and fufill my God – appointed responsibility on every occasion.
Succeed at adding worth and restoring personal value to another
Leave my children a legacy of inner peace, contentment, a great love for God and others.
Then,
I will have fulfilled my purpose on this earth.

If
by Jacqui

If I can open the door to my salvation
If I can make Jesus closer than a brother
If I can make Holy Spirit my counsel and guide.
If I can stand and having done all to stand, stand.
If I can resist the devil
If I can submit to God
If I wait on the Lord and be of good courage.
If I can plant the word in good soul
If I can have faith that pleases God
If I can have love that worketh faith
If I can do unto others what I want to do into myself
Then I will have fulfilled my purpose and be his daughter in whom he is well pleased.
If
by O. Stephen

If I touched one life to write their story
And two lives to do the same,
Yet another to spread the message
That they too will never be the same.
If I am able to live
An example and leave a legacy the same
I would be forever grateful
That my if will remain.

If
by Sandra

If I wipe the tears from every hurting child
and replace it with a smile
If I breathe the breath of life
And walk the journey by faith
If my sight is not mine
And all things are seen through the vision of God
If I live to see my grands produce grands
And their wealth is a prospering soul
If I be emptied of all my gifts and talent
Before the grave I see
Then my purpose on earth would be fulfilled
Then the angels will say Bravo!
And at rest my soul will be
